Discover this place
Located in the heart of Melaka, The Kam Cheng 感情娘惹餐厅 offers a vibrant twist on Nyonya cuisine that has captivated both locals and tourists. Upon entering, diners are greeted by lovely decor featuring Chinese Nyonya vases, creating a warm atmosphere. Reviews highlight standout dishes such as the tender Babi Asam, praised for its well-infused flavors and succulent pork that captures the essence of traditional Nyonya cooking. However, the consistency of dishes can vary; some reviewers noted misses like the Assam Babi and the rather underwhelming Chap Chye.
The restaurant shines with its generous portions and modern interpretations of classic dishes. The Sago Gula Melaka, recognized as one of the best desserts in town, leaves diners craving more, thanks to its delightful balance of sweetness and texture. While some items, like the fried Daun Kaduk and Nasi Lemak Bunga Telang, are lauded, the experience is not without its criticisms regarding a few flavors falling flat.
Overall, The Kam Cheng provides a memorable culinary experience, blending tradition with modern flair, making it a must-visit for anyone eager to explore the rich tapestry of Nyonya heritage cuisine in Melaka.

Review highlights
Based on 1,898 reviewsThe Kam Cheng 感情娘惹餐厅 is widely recognized for its flavorful Nyonya-inspired dishes that blend traditional flavors with modern twists. Diners consistently praise the tender, well-seasoned pork dishes and fragrant, moist rice preparations. Signature items such as the sweet chili prawns, dry laksa, and sago desserts receive frequent positive mentions for their taste and generous portions. While the restaurant’s approach may not fully align with strict traditional authenticity, its fusion style appeals to a broad audience. Some inconsistencies are noted, with occasional dishes falling short in moisture or flavor balance. Overall, the restaurant is regarded as a must-visit in Melaka for those seeking a satisfying, innovative take on Nyonya cuisine.
Hit n misses. The fried Daun Kaduk was very crispy n nice. Goes very well if U have beer or whisky. The belacan chili mixed 4 beans is great too. The nasi lemak rice is really good. Very fragrant, soft n moist However the Assam babi is a great letdown. Dry, hard n tasteless. Don't have any Assam taste at all. The taufu dessert was totally a miss. It's quite hard n dry more like a cake rather than taufu. Didn't taste any taufu or soya taste. It's a very nicely decorated restaurant especially with Chinese Nyonya vases n serving plates are really beautiful We went on a weekday dinner not too many customers. Recommend to book in advance on weekends
We were blown away by the food here. The Nyonya food here isn’t fully authentic though, seems like a fusion with more modern twists to dishes. We had the: - Babi asam (5/5) the star of the show. The pork was tender and well infused with asam taste. The sauce paired very well, although we couldn’t quite identify what the contents were. Perhaps garlic in lemon with mustard or wasabi (?) - otak-otak (4/5), the meat was tender and drizzled with santan. Palpable chunks of fish meat within. Well flavoured. - Stir fried four heavenly kings (4/5), stir fried vegetables in belacan. Not bad. - Chap Chye (2/5), found this a bit disappointing. Prawn taste was mild. Although, the serving size was humongous and we struggled a little to finish it. - Buah keluak ice cream (3/5), on the menu, the description sounded interesting and fancy. In reality, it was just chocolate ice cream with Oreo crumbs, some chilli flakes and green stuff we couldn’t identify. Only a small amount of keluak flesh at the bottom of the cup. Not worth it. We paired our food with the blue rice, which had a strong lemak taste. Absolutely delicious. It’s in a relatively new restaurant which is tastefully decorated. Air cond was very chilly when I came. This place is a must visit if you are in Melaka with a craving for Nyonya food. I would recommend making a reservation before coming as this place does fill up on the weekends.
If you’re in Melaka City, this restaurant is a must-try — highly recommended for both lunch and dinner. It proudly received the Outstanding Chef Award at the Global Gourmet 2023 Chef Par Excellence Culinary Competition. The food is amazing and served in generous portions. The sweet chili prawns and Paul’s dry laksa were absolutely delicious, but the highlight for me was their famous dessert, Sago Gula Melaka — truly top-notch and the best in town!
The fried chicken and pork belly is really good. Not the best original nyonya food I ever eat. But their taste is more acceptable for majority. Definitely will come back again.
We had such a delightful meal here with authentic Nyonya dishes that really stood out. We ordered the Babi Ponteh, Lemak Pucuk Paku, Otak Otak, and Nasi Lemak Bunga Telang, along with some traditional desserts – sago pudding and glutinous rice balls, Nyonya-style. The Babi Ponteh was truly the highlight – the pork was incredibly tender, juicy, and full of rich, savoury flavours that lingered beautifully. The Nasi Lemak Bunga Telang was fragrant, with rice that was fluffy and tasty on its own, pairing perfectly with the side dishes. The Otak Otak was clearly homemade, generously filled with chunks of fish fillet that gave it a wholesome, authentic taste, unlike the usual processed versions you find elsewhere. The Lemak Pucuk Paku was fresh and flavourful, with the lemak sauce rich and aromatic without being too heavy. For dessert, the sago with gula melaka and coconut milk was refreshing and well-balanced, while the glutinous rice balls carried that nostalgic Nyonya touch, chewy and satisfying. Overall, the meal felt like a comforting home-cooked spread, but elevated with attention to flavour and detail. Portion sizes were just right, and each dish complemented the other perfectly. Definitely a place worth coming back to for a true taste of Nyonya heritage cooking!
